GENIE REGIE is a project inspired by the indonesian puppet-shadow play Wayang Kulit. A trilogy of shadow puppetry. I was especially interested in the shapes and methods used in the Java, Bali and Lombok region. I made my own take on playing with shadow and light. A mix and match of shapes taken from different cultures that make new stories. Stories that came to mind in the moment, whatever my overhead projector could take. I tried various materials but I'm especially in love with my collaboration with Shelsey Boermans( https://www.instagram.com/oui.shel_sey/?hl=nl ). The video animation was named GENIE REGIE because in that moment we felt like we played the part.
